We keep hearing about food born illnesses, things are being recalled and we wonder what we can do to keep our families and ourselves safe. Over at Tampabay.com they talk about the different kinds of food born illnesses and what you can do to keep safe.
Here’s a list of some things to keep in mind when it comes to your food and how to keep your kitchen clean from being contaminated!
First of all, clean, clean, clean! Wash cutting boards, dishes and utensils with hot soapy water. Sanitation is key, and do this after and before each food item prep.
Next, make sure you have two cutting boards, one for meat, seafood and poultry and one for veggies and fruits. This will keep them from cross-contaminating while you are preparing your food. Also when grocery shopping keep your raw meats, poultry, seafood and eggs from other items as well as in your refrigerator.
When cooking food make sure to use a food thermometer. This will allow you to know when your food is cooked all the way through. When reheating sauces, soups and gravies bring them to a boil. Egg whites AND yolks should be firm and not runny.
Last on this list is to keep things cold in the fridge, at least at 40F (4C) and your freezer at 0F (-17.7C). Also when defrosting, do it in the fridge, cold water or in a microwave and not at room temperature.
Here’s to hoping we can keep those nasty things like food poisoning from invading your home!

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
