Appetizers, Recipes

Basil can be used as a wonderful addition to many dishes to give them an extra interesting kick! This fig appetizer gets just that with fresh basil leaves and wrapped with prosciutto and a delicious syrup. It doesn’t take long to make and everyone will think it’s so elegant!

    Serves 4
    Time required 10 minutes
    Difficulty level 2
    Cost of ingredients 10USD

  • 4 figs, fresh
  • 16 slices of proscuitto
  • 16 basil leaves, fresh
  • ½ cup (125ml) balsamic vinegar
  • ¼ cup (60ml) maple syrup
  • Olive oil for drizzling

Clean and quarter figs and wash basil leaves, set aside.

Take a fig quarter and place a basil leaf on it. Wrap prosciutto around basil and fig and set on a plate. Repeat with the rest of the fig slices, basil and prosciutto.

In a sauce pan over medium heat, add balsamic vinegar and maple syrup. Cook until thick and bubbly. Using a spoon, drizzle syrup over the figs, prosciutto and basil. Drizzle a little olive oil on top and serve!
