The grilling and picnic season is about to begin with Victoria day this weekend in Canada and Memorial day next weekend in the US! Tzatziki is a cool, refreshing Greek yogurt and cucumber sauce that goes well with all kinds of grilled or picnic foods and it’s super healthy too!
- 2 cucumbers, peeled
- 16 ounces (450g) skim milk Greek yogurt, 0% plain yogurt can be substituted
- 1 teaspoon (5ml) dill, fresh
- 1 clove garlic, peeled and smashed
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 2 dashes of salt
- 1 teaspoon (5ml) pepper

Grate the cucumber on a grater, using the small grate. Squeeze out all the extra liquid in the cucumber and place in a large bowl.
Mince the garlic and the dill. Place in the bowl with the cucumber along with salt, pepper and lemon juice.
Add in the yogurt and mix well. If using the 0% plain yogurt, place the yogurt in a cheese cloth and allow the excess liquid to strain from the yogurt. This will keep the tzatziki from having too much liquid.
Serve as a condiment or a dip. Goes well with gyros, souvlaki, and can be used instead of mayo on many sandwiches!
