Crawfish Boil

This week during the Treatro7 and MadeinKitchen cooking class we learned how to make quick fish and seafood dishes. Boiled crawfish is quick, easy and delicious so this is a perfect sort of recipe to reflect fast seafood!

Serves 5
Time required 20 minutes
Difficulty level 1
Cost of ingredients 30 USD

  • 5 lbs. crawfish (crayfish/crawdads), live
  • 2 onions, quartered
  • 2 lemons, quartered
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed but still whole
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 12 cups of water
  • 1 tablespoon ground red pepper
  • ½ tablespoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons salt

Pour the water into a large soup pot and add onions, lemons, garlic, bay leaves and salt. Bring water to a boil and add in the crawfish. Allow to cook for 5 – 10 minutes or until the color of the shells change to bright red. If wanting more spicy crawfish allow to sit in the water a few more minutes

Drain and serve warm or chilled. This goes great with corn on the cob, which can be boiled with the crawfish to make a one pot meal!

If you are looking for a way to get your crawfish, in the states you can check out  Louisiana Crawfish Co. They’ll FedEx your live crawfish!

Or go down to the pond and catch them. However that will take all day. But a fun day for the little ones.
