Most people love pizza and would love to make their own, but just don’t have a great dough to work with. Here is a recipe that makes a great crust that can be either nice and thin or a good thick hearty dough!
Serves 4-5
Time required 50-60 minutes
Difficulty level 2
Cost of ingredients 5 USD
Pizza Crust
1/2 cup warm water (110° F)
1 envelope yeast (2 1/4 teaspoon)
1 1/4 cup water at room temperature
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
Proof the yeast in 1/2 cup water, about 5 -10 minutes in a deep bowl. Add room temp water and oil and stir to combine.
Whisk salt and flour together in another bowl, making sure the salt is evenly distributed. Add half the flour to the liquid ingredients and combine. Stir in the rest of the flour and mix until a cohesive mass forms.
Turn dough onto lightly floured surface. Knead until smooth and elastic, about 7 – 8 minutes. Use as little dusting flour as possible. Form dough into a ball and put into a deep oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap and let rise at least 10 minutes but no longer than 30 minutes.
Pre-heat oven to 475° F. Turn the dough back out on a lightly floured surface. Punch the dough down and cut it into even amounts. Take a section and fold it under into a tight ball and set to the side.
Take a pizza pan and sprinkle some corn meal on it (keeps the dough from sticking). Form a pizza shape out of one of the dough balls and place it on the pan. Add your choice of toppings and place in the oven until golden brown, approx. 6-12 minutes (15-20 minutes for extra large pizzas).
Let cool before serving and enjoy!
