Granita is an Italian frozen slushy type of dessert that is perfect for Summer heat. It’s similar to sorbet or Italian ice but has a coarser texture that gives you something to bite into. This recipe includes candied ginger, watermelon and lime!
- ½ cup (125ml) water
- ½ cup (125ml) sugar
- 1 lime, zest and juice
- 4 cups (1L) watermelon, in chunks seeds removed
- ¼ cup (60ml) candied ginger, chopped
Serves 6
Time required 30 minutes
Difficulty level 2
Cost of ingredients 5 USD
In a sauce pan, combine sugar and water and bring to a boil, stirring until sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Add in lime juice and zest and mix.
Add in chopped up candied ginger and watermelon chunks and mix together. Place mixture into a large zip lock bag and put in the freezer until frozen.
Remove bag from freezer and smash with a meat mallot, rolling pin or the bottom of a bottle to break up the frozen mixture. Pour into glasses and enjoy!
If you’d like to make this an adult drink, add a shot of white rum or vodka to the cup.

what’s up with the severely overpriced 2GB hard drive? You can get a 2GB flash drive for less than $20 that does pretty much the same thing…
